چکیده

Abstract Background The volatile fraction of frankincense ( Boswellia sacra ) oleogum was extracted, formulated in nanoemulsion and tested against lung cancer A549 cell line. First, the gum hydro-distilled to isolate (essential oil), which analyzed via gas chromatography identify its major constituents. Then, oil two water-based nanoemulsions differ from one another presence propylene glycol (PG), is used formulation step as a co-surfactant. pure essential well compound (α-pinene), reference drug (Doxorubicin) were evaluated lines WI-38 normal cells. evaluation included cytotoxicity (MTT IC 50 ), apoptosis (flow cytometric analysis) addition genetic assessments for some intrinsic extrinsic genes relevant survival pathways. Results Chromatographic analysis revealed that α-pinene constituent about 60% oil. Emulsification using low energy technique gave having intense particles population (85–90%) with z-average diameter below 20.0 nm. Frankincense fabricated (PG) showed best cytotoxic activity toward compared PG-free nanoemulsion, doxorubicin, along different incubation periods. Flow also indicated PG-containing can induce cells better than other formula oils. same found upregulate pro-apoptotic [DR5, FAAD, Caspase 8 (Cas8), p53, Bax] downregulate anti-apoptotic reoccurrence (Bcl-2, NF-kB, STAT-3). Most importantly, had least effect on Conclusions These results point out potentials (rich α-pinene) PG-nanoemulsion promising adjuvant plant-source potentiate systematic anti-lung drugs.

Genistein Induces Apoptosis and Inhibits Proliferation of HT29 Colon Cancer Cells

Soybean isoflavone genistein has multiple anticancer properties and its pro-apoptotic and anti-proliferative effects have been studied in different cancer cells. However, the mechanisms of action of genistein and its molecular targets on human colon cells have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, caspase-3 and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) as the main therapeutic targets...

Biological activities of frankincense essential oil in human dermal fibroblasts

Although frankincense essential oil (FREO) has become increasingly popular in skin care, research on its biological activities in human skin cells is scarce, if not completely absent. In the current study, we explored the biological activities of FREO in pre-inflamed human dermal fibroblasts by analyzing the levels of 17 important protein biomarkers pertinent to inflammation and tissue remodeli...

Comparison of Antioxidant, Antibacterial, and Cytotoxic Effects of Essential Oil and Nanoemulsion of Clove Essential Oil

Introduction: Medicinal plants are among the most important products in agriculture and medicine. The usefulness and cheapness, environmental friendliness, and limited side effects of medicinal plants have increased the rate of use of these plants in recent years. Plant extracts, such as cloves, have long been used in medicine, perfumery, and as additives in cooking. This study aimed to evaluat...

Downregulation of leptin inhibits growth and induces apoptosis of lung cancer cells via the Notch and JAK/STAT3 signaling pathways

Previous studies have documented that leptin is involved in the pathogenesis of many human cancer types by regulation of numerous signal transduction pathways. The aim of this study was to investigate the biological roles of leptin and the mechanisms attributed to its action in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines. The expression of leptin was measured by quantitative real-time PCR and...

Downregulation of Kinesin Spindle Protein Inhibits Proliferation, Induces Apoptosis and Increases Chemosensitivity in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cells

Background: Kinesin spindle protein (KSP) plays a critical role in mitosis. Inhibition of KSP function leads to cell cycle arrest at mitosis and ultimately to cell death. The aim of this study was to suppress KSP expression by specific small-interfering RNA (siRNA) in Hep3B cells and evaluate its anti-tumor activity. Methods: Three siRNA targeting KSP (KSP-siRNA #1-3) and one mismatched-siRNA (...
